GU16 Black Hawks player Sha’Mya Williams invited to
attend Bradenton Soccer Academy
GU16 Black Coach Chuck Elsea, Sha’Mya Williams and DOC David Halliday
Long time Hawks player Sha’Mya Williams has recently been invited to attend Bradenton Soccer Academy in Bradenton Florida. Sha’Mya who is currently a player on Chuck Elsea’s GU16 Black team
was invited to finish her high school years (11th and 12th grade) and continue playing soccer at a high level and move on to college soccer and hopefully the women’s national team.
I spoke to Sha’Mya about her experience with the Hawks and her future. Sha’Mya became a Hawk when she was an U10 player. Her first team was a red team and she played for Coach Patrick Daly. When she moved on to U11 she made the black team and her coach was Chuck Elsea. Sha’Mya said “I have also received a lot of instruction and influence from coaches David Halliday, Carlos Basso, Ryan Halliday and Nat Gonzalez”.
From each of her coaches she has learned a lot about soccer and life. Some of those things are playing faster, improving her touch through juggling (every day!), skill on the ball and proper kicking technique. Sha’Mya says her U10 coach, Pat Daly made the game fun for her so she wanted to come back. Through it all she says Coach Chuck always pushed her to do better and gave her advice on playing in college and the confidence that she could do it.
Sha’Mya says her teammates have also had an influence on her. She said by “never going easy on me” during practices or games it always pushed her to do better. She said “as a team we were always competing to be the best”.
Some of her many memories include when she was an U10 player and Coach Pat put her at midfield. “I didn’t pace myself and was running all over the place, within 10 minutes I started hyper ventilating”! She says her best game was in Colorado, “I scored 1 goal and had 5 assists”. One thing she will always remember is Coach Chuck trying to do a step over “and he fell to the ground”!
Sha’Mya’s said her short term goal is “to play soccer in college on
full scholarship”. Long term she would like to become a film producer and “to start a charity fund for underprivileged kids to play sports.” Sha’Mya also said “I would like to thank the Hawks organization for believing in me and giving me an opportunity to pursue my dream of playing soccer”.
Sha’Mya has a smile that lights up any space she is in. She did not mention her mother Sharyn’s influence but Sharyn has been there for Sha’Mya every step of the way. We will be lucky to have the Williams family around as Sha’Mya’s 3 younger brothers are Hawks. Good luck to Sha’Mya from all of us and we will be waiting to hear about your accomplishments and life in Florida!

Hawks helping Hawks

TVSA Hawks BU16 soccer team spent 8 hours on a hot August Saturday trimming and weeding a teammate’s family yard (they trimmed and weeded over 10 trucks worth of weeds!). There teammate Austin Gallino’s father Mike, is serving overseas in the Navy. To show their support for Austin and his family they took on this project, understanding that Austin’s dad was making a far more difficult sacrifice. The team took a break at 11 AM to eat pizza’s that were donated by an anonymous military veteran who heard what these young men were doing. Mike Gallino will receive before and after pictures to show that these young men are showing his family support while he is gone.
