The 2007 Summer Fundamental Camps were an overwhelming success!
Whether measured by smiles and laughter, new skills attained, or by a record
breaking attendance of nearly 200 campers (split between two weeks), the
fundamental camps were a huge success by any standard.
The vast majority of boys and girls came from the TVSA
recreation program, but there were also players from Murrieta and Fallbrook, as
well as from the TVSA Hawks and other competitive organizations. Everyone was
welcome, and fun and new friendships were open to all.
During the camp, boys and girls of all ages were separated into
multiple age groups, and the skills training was largely based upon fun
activities. Dribbling, shooting, passing, ball control, and game playing were
all included in the weekly program of skills development.
An additional thank you goes out to the coaches and trainers for
the week. Staff Coaches included Nik Laytart, David Halliday, Carlos Basso, and
Alisha Strasheim. There was also valuable training provided by male and female
Alumni Hawks currently playing in the College ranks and teen players from our
accomplished Premier and top bracketed teams. A special thank you to Kelley
Collins, Annie Bostre-Le, Zhari Lopez, Gene Conklin, and many more who
volunteered their organizational skills and provided their time.
We hope to see all of our new friends back to share in the
Winter Fundamental Camp soccer experience.

The
TVSA Hawks Girls Under 13 Black team won the gold bracket of the
Coronado Crown City Classic on Sunday, August 12th. The semi-final was
1-1 in regulation, but the Hawks came through to win it in PK's with
four great shots. The final was against Laguna Hills Eclipse and it also
ended in a 1-1 tie. However, with three great shots and one awesome save
by our goalie, we took the championship. Congratulations to Coach Carlos

The Hawks GU9 Black team won the championship at the California Sun & Surf in Long Beach, August
4-6. This tournament proved to be the toughest competition we have ever faced.
The girls had to play hard and were challenged emotionally as they went into PK's during the semi-finals as well as the final. They faced off to Force from
Torrance, CA in the semi final and it was a battle. Our girls played great just
could not get the ball in the back of the net. They went into sudden death Pk's
and won.
The final was against FC Barcelona and they are the best team we
will see all season. They have talent beyond their years. Our girls have had to
face them now three times and the third time was the charm. We went 0-0 in
regulation, 0-0 in over time and then came up ahead in PK's to win the
Championship. We are so proud of how the girls played in the final against
Barcelona. They showed so much heart during this game. They played hard the
entire 60 minutes before heading into PK's. It was a victory that they will hold
onto for a long time.
Congrats to all the teams at the tournament and thanks for a
great weekend! Way to go Hawks!

The Hawks BU-13 Black, Championships of the Albion Cup Tournament won a tough
final game against a strong FC San Diego team, 4-1. It was tough not only
because FC San Diego applied intense pressure throughout the game, but also
because one of the Hawks’ players, Andrew Meza, went down 10 minutes into the
first half. Emergency crews were called to the field, and took Andrew away in an
ambulance with a dislocated right knee. Now, it was up to his teammates to carry
on with the game and bring home the Championship trophy, which they did in honor
of Andrew.
In bracket play, the team was undefeated with victories against FC San Diego,
3-0, Encinitas Express, 6-1, and host team, Albion, 2-1. The Hawks faced a quick
and physical Palmdale Thunder Thunder team in the semifinals. Down 0-2 at the
half, Coach Cliff McKinley offered encouraging words to the players. In the
second half, the Hawks took advantage of his words and scored 2 goals on a
throw-in and a corner kick, tying the game, 2-2. When the final whistle blew,
the Hawks had the momentum, and it was time for PK’s. Goalie, Tyler Papaco,
prevailed over the Thunder goalie by saving three PK’s. Awesome job Tyler!
