BU8 Black Irvine Winter Classic Finalists

The Gold Bracket of the Irvine Winter Classic saw top teams compete from San Diego, Orange, Riverside, Los Angeles, and Ventura Counties. Each team came prepared and set to square-off in a round robin format at the campus of UC Irvine.

The first match-up for the Hawks was their league rivals, the Lightning Red team from Carlsbad. The Hawks had defeated the Lightning for the Crusaders Cup Championship, and again in league play when the Hawks surged into first place. A lackluster start found the Hawks in a tough situation at halftime being behind and needing an infusion of energy. A strong comeback in the second half came up short as the goalpost denied the crucial goal in a 3-2 loss. The defeat was only the Hawks second in their last eighteen games played.

Needing a win to stay in contention, the boys from Temecula Valley faced off against FC Force from the South Bay of Los Angeles County. In a battle that produced an early Hawks lead, the Force continued to pressure, drawing the game even until TVSA hit goals 3 and 4, pulling ahead for good and over-taking both FC Force and Lightning Red in the standings based on points.

Sunday’s match against Real California of Ventura County was a less pressured event. The Hawks moved the ball around with ease, connecting short passes and long crosses, and scored six unanswered goals for the victory and a continued edge on the Lightning for second place.

The last game of the round robin would determine first, second, and third place. With all other games completed, a loss against the first place and undefeated FC Blades of Irvine would drop the boys into third place, a tie or win would secure second place, and a three goal victory with a shut-out would give the boys first place. In what proved to be a high energy contest from the first touch of the ball, the Hawks mounted quick counter attacks that kept the Blades off-balance. To the crowds excitement the Hawks scored first, marking the first lead and first tournament goal against the Irvine team. As the battle raged on, FC Blades capitalized on a defensive lapse and the match was tied at one each. The Hawks midfield continued to mount pressure sensing victory, the defense grew stronger and pushed forward into the attack, and the chances presented themselves in the Hawks favor. In the end, the score remained tied for a dramatic tournament comeback earning the team a victorious second place finish.

Congratulations to the BU-8 Hawks Black for a great 2006-07 season, highlighted by being Pegasus Cup Finalists, Irvine Winter Classic Finalists, Crusader Cup Champions, Presidio Cup Champions, and Presidio League Champions. Outstanding effort boys!!!

BU8 Black champions again

Congratulations to the Hawks BU-8 Black and Coach Patrick Borin for winning the title of Presidio Cup Champions! This post-league tournament was held the first weekend in El Cajon and matched the boys against a solid group of competitive teams from San Diego.

The first game was against the only team to hand the young Hawks a defeat in league play. The boys came out focused and carried the match to a solid 2-1 victory over CV Manchester. The second game of the day was our first experience against the La Jolla Impact. The game opened up with an early 2-0 Hawks lead with two quick strikes and a finishing result of 3-1. The final game of the weekend was a re-match with the Del Mar Sharks. The Hawks struggled to get their game together early on, but took a very nice 1-0 lead due to a well placed cross and a nice finishing touch. A brilliant penalty kick save in the final minutes preserved the 1-0 victory and the undefeated sweep of the bracket.

The second weekend was the Presidio Cup Finals at Tidelands Park in beautiful Coronado. The Hawks faced off against the SWSC team, a re-match from league play in which we captured the win. In what was an energetic and intense game, the Hawks took the first half advantage, then maintained their head-to-head winning record with a late second half goal for the 2-0 victory. The Hawks BU-8 Black were crowned Presidio Cup Champions!

As this season begins to wind down, the BU-8 Hawks Black earned the Championship title from the Presidio League, Presidio Cup, Crusader’s Cup, and Finalists at the Pegasus Cup. Congratulations to a hard working, quick learning group of fantastic young boys!

TVSA GU8 Hawks go undefeated

We want to congratulate the G-U8 Hawks who took first place this season with an undefeated record of 14-0 in the Presidio League.  They scored an amazing 82 goals for and only allowed 2 in.

The little Hawks played great all season giving their best in every game.  They seemed to amaze everyone who watched them play always showing their great skill and ability.

As much as we would love to give all the credit to these girls we would like to thank their Coach, Nicole Conde.  She was able to keep the girls excited about the game of soccer and continue to teach them the game with skill and vision.  The G-U8 team had so much fun and built amazing friendships that will last a lifetime.  We would also like to thank the TVSA organization for all their support and the additional technical training with Mark Riley.  It really gave the girls the confidence to challenge themselves and their abilities.

This will definitely be a season that we will always remember as a GREAT experience.

Congratulations, Little Hawks.  YOU ROCK!

Hawks BU8 take league title

After a successful summer of tournament play, it was time for the young Hawks to focus in on their 13 game Presidio League season. A slow start in scoring led to a beginning record of 2 ties in the first 2 games. With an understanding that league results are secondary to individual technique training and team building, the boys continued to work hard and maintained a high level of confidence. Their hard work paid off and showed itself on the field as they moved up in the 11 team standings with a series of impressive wins involving brilliant teamwork and skillful ball-handling.

The second half of the season had the team positioned in fourth place with the top three teams left to play. The boys playing inspired soccer kicked it up a notch with a high level of intensity and knocked off the top two teams with 4-1 and 3-0 victories. A 9-1-3 record, and a league leading defense allowing only 12 goals in 13 games, secured first place giving the TVSA Hawks another Championship title.

Congratulations to the twelve boys who make up the roster for the BU-8 Hawks, and a thank you to their parents for their ongoing support!
